Founded in 1951, the International School of Brussels is co-educational day school enrolling students from Nursery through grade 13. There are approximately 1,500 students from 70 countries, where 53 percent of the student body is from Europe and 22 percent from North America. Bus service is available to students living in the greater Brussels area. Fees range from EUR 13,800 to EUR 30,500. The curriculum has been developed to serve the needs of international students, and the school is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and by the Council of International Schools (CIS). Advanced Placement courses and the International Baccalaureate are offered, and students are prepared for college and university admission worldwide. There is a Special Education Programme for students with cognitive disabilities. Numerous extra-curricular activities are available, including drama, band, journalism, speech and debate. Many sports facilities are on campus, including an American football field, and a purpose-built theatre with seating for 350 plus small studio theatre.
